1. Clean your jewelry regularly:
Over time, your necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings will begin to lose their luster and become tarnished. Contact with skin acidity, water humidity, perspiration, creams, perfumes or any other chemical products are all factors that can cause your jewelry to lose its shine. It is therefore advisable to wash them regularly in order to remove the mass of dirt that is deposited there. Cleaning will depend on the material of which the jewelry is made.
But how to clean them? Which product to use without risking further damage? Here are some tips to keep in mind to best preserve your jewelry.
2. Clean stainless steel jewelry?
Although steel jewelry is stainless, it does not guarantee against the accumulation of dirt and greasy film. But nothing serious. Stainless steel is very easy to clean. Simply pass it under soapy water (Marseille soap) to clean the inside of the mesh, then dry it with a soft cloth. And voila !
3. Clean silver or gold-plated jewelry?
The following tips will be the same whether you are on 925/000 solid silver or silver-plated jewelry. The specificity of silver is that it is a malleable metal, therefore easier to work with for jewelers. However, it will tend to oxidize, giving your jewelry a blackened appearance.
Coca-Cola is a simple and easy to use trick. Just let your jewelry soak for 1 min in a glass, then rinse it with clear water. Repeat the operation if necessary to obtain a better result.
Lemon juice by its acidity is also a good remedy to eliminate the blackened side and restore shine to your jewelry. Rub your jewel with a soft cloth soaked in lemon juice, then rinse the jewel with clear water and dry it.
The toothpaste using a toothbrush will allow you to thoroughly clean the meshes of the chains of your necklaces or bracelets. Then rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth.
Do not hesitate to have your larger jewels polished once a year to erase scratches and imperfections. If you wish, you can do it yourself with a chamois, rubbing gently. The best thing is still to keep it as often as possible and to take your shower with your solid silver jewellery, in order to always keep them clean and shiny. Be careful, however, to dry them well.
4. Clean costume jewelry?
If you do not know the exact composition of your jewel, it is better to avoid using products that are too abrasive. Just use a soft cloth and a little soap. Do not rub too much and dry your jewelry well after cleaning.
In general, remember to store your jewelry in their box or suede after wearing it, away from light and in a dry room. Avoid leaving them lying around on the bathroom sink. Always have a small soft cloth (like for glasses) handy to polish them after wearing them. This is the guarantee of a shine and a prolonged lifespan.
